Chapter 1: Anu Adventure

One sunny day on the Giza Plains, Mog went to fetch water for Goldy and himself. Mog, a small moogle, lived on the Giza Plains in a small house with a pen for Goldy, his pet chocobo. A moogle is a tiny creature, and furry creature with bat-like wings, and a red “bonbon” on their head. Chocobos are yellow, flightless birds used for transportation.
When Mog returned home, Mog happily yelled,

“I’m home Goldy!” to the sleepy bird. Goldy sighed, and nodded his head in acknowledgement. Mog then mounted, and rode Goldy into Anu, the city of water. The busy street corners were bustling, and the chatter was drowned out by the gushing water from the natural oasis that lay below the city. Mog walked into a building labeled “Anu Tavern” with a smile on his cute face.

Chapter 2: Plea of Flan

As Mog walked into the bustling tavern, he eyed the counter to find Vaan, the tavern boy, working the counter. He was whistling away the merry tune that riders use to goad their chocobos along. Mog floated over to the counter, and landed on the countertop. Vaan heartily said

“Welcome to the Anu Tavern!” Mog nodded and smiled back. While Mog prepared to dance, Goldy though about Mog’s ability. Mog’s dancing was a natural born talent, but it was more than that. His dances enchanted people, but in a good way.

As Mog did his “Dance of Courage”, people began to feel twice as strong. Mog’s “Dance of Rejuvenation” relaxed the watchers, and energized them.

As Mog took his payment and tips for his performance, Goldy thought caringly

“That’s my Mog.” As soon as Mog took his bows and left the stage, Flan hopped along to Mog.

“I need your help.” Flan said friendly. Flan was ridiculed from being the only jelly in the Alto region. People taunted, and even pelted him with rocks. Mog was the only one who ever extended a hand of kindness.

“I need the ancient tidal stone of morphing.” Flan pleaded. “Please, help me go to Umbarg swamp to locate the stone.” Mog completely understood what he was going to use the holy artifact for. Flan would try to ingest it, and grow arms and legs.

“Though,” Mog replied. “I like you just the way you are.” The smell of “Chocobo Brew” graced the air with the sweet sent that everyone knew as the specialty of the tavern. Flan was quiet for a moment, but continued.

“I understand that, but it will make it easier on my life.” People and creatures alike thought of Flan’s merchant shop, his occupation, as a cursed shop because of him being the only jelly. Mog was hesitant, but agreed. They smiled, and then rode Goldy to Umbarg swamp, which was close to Anu.

Chapter 3: A Prickly Encounter, and Flan’s Growth

As Flan, Mog, and Goldy rode across the Giza Plains in the late afternoon sunset, the plains looked almost blood-red under the half circle sun. The sun eventually set, to reveal a crescent moon overlooking the now black plain. The trio eventually set up camp under a sturdy Bwava tree. After setting up their makeshift shelter, and their sleeping bags, they drifted to their dreams. They were unaware of the terror of the plains.

Awaking the next morning, they all cleaned up in an Undine Spring near by. The sweet water had healing powers during the day, and was just plain water at night. Mog and Flan silently packed up camp, doused the cooking fire, and decimating the branches used as cover. Flan looked sullen, so Mog decided to ask what was wrong.

“Is there a problem?” Mog said friendly.

Flan sighed “Everything is fine; I’m just worried that we will make it through ok.”

Mog then replied “Of course everything will be fine. There have been chimera reports, but I’m sure we won’t run into any of those.” From a Jublle shrub near by, a pair of red eyes glanced at the three with an intense glare. Mog, Flan, and Goldy eventually noticed the rustling of the Jublle shrub over by the Undine Spring they bathed in. Mog went to investigate it. He found a rabiite, a cute rabbit-like creature with oversized ears, and oval, adorable eyes. He cooed the rabiite and then urged it to run along.

They then set out from the site, eager to find the Morphing Stone. Not long after they set out, a cactus jumped out in front of Flan, and startled the group. It was a cactuar, a cactus with black, empty holes for eyes, and a sideways oval shaped mouth. It seemed to rule this part of the plains, and this meant that if the cactuar wouldn’t let the group pass, then a battle must commence for entrance deeper to explore for the jewel.

Mog was weaponless, and so was Flan. Neither of them relied on brute strength however. The hostile cactuar fired needles with poison in them. If they hit something, it would slowly wither and die. Mog landed on the ground, but quickly asended to avoid the mortal wounding attack. Mog started to do a dance, aware of Flan’s abilities. He named the dance “Dance of Thought” for the way it increased the thinking capacity of something, and accelerated the rate of thought. Flan had the ability to cast spells. The novice of a fighter he was, Flan could only cast three spells of the basic elements that made up everything in the world. These were fire, ice, and lighting. Flan was aware of cactuar’s resistance to lighting, and started to use ice spells, cactuar’s weak element. The stubborn cactuar was a pushover, but was not dumb, so he began to launch needles at Mog.

Flan created a wall of ice to protect Mog. Flan then hit cactuar with a barrage of ice spells, and with the boost of the dance, learned a new spell. Calling “Earth” he brought up boulders that pulled cactuar into the ground, and knocked him out. Congratulating one another, they remounted Goldy, and headed out to find the stone once again.

Chapter 4: The Towering Cactuar

After countless battles with territorial cactuars, the friends finally find themselves at the base of a towering tree that was said to house the Morphing Stone. The group treaded lightly as they did not know what was in store for them.

When they came to a rickety bridge, they had to dismount in fear of breaking the bridge, and falling into the black abyss below. Mog could tell Flan was afraid, but determined to get that stone to stop the ridicule once and for all. The experience was a little freighting, but they made it through unscathed.

There was something unsettling about the next room. There were dead bodies scattered across the hollow room. The bones were also scattered around, and picked clean of any meat. This terrifying sight signaled to Mog and Flan that they were close to the stone. They creped into the next room and found something waiting for them.

A giant cactuar with a moustache lay before them. His bellowing voice echoed through the room.

“You must be looking for the room with the stone.” The giant cactuar said in his deep voice.

“Yes” Mog yelled just for the giant to hear him.

“Ok.” The giant said “Though, you must answer a riddle to successfully continue on.” They all agreed on the condition, but the cactuar had only one more thing to add. “Only one of you may answer the riddle.”

Mog knew exactly who would answer the riddle.

“Goldy will answer the riddle.” Mog pointed to the chocobo. “Though, only I can understand him, so he will speak through me.” Mog said.

“Fair enough,” Replied the giant. “If you are chocobo racing, and you pass the person in second place, what place are you in?” The chocobo thought, and finally came up with an answer.

He nodded to Mog, and Mog said “You would be in second place.” “Correct, you passed the test of brains. Though I warn you, the trial of brawn is equally as hard if not harder” bellowed the cactuar as he disappeared. Mog and Flan sighed for relief, but the journey was not yet over. They must overcome one more trial to cure Flan of his problem once and for all.

Chapter 5: Flan’s Courage

Arriving into the next room, the item they were searching for was finally within their grasp. Umbarg Swamp lied out before their eyes. In the center of the bubbling mass, was a small island. A chest lined with jewels was perched on top of the island which held the stone. Flan was bursting with excitement, as he hopped across the scattered stones to the center of Umbarg Swamp.

Struggling to keep up, Mog floated over to the chest. They both then felt something wet dropping on them. A chimera was leaning over them, and looked viciously at them. They both knew it was hungry, and they were lunch.

Even though Mog and Flan were frightened, almost to the point of paralysis, they managed to evade their predator, and hide behind a rock to talk about strategy.

“I’ll use “Dance of Thought”, and you hit it with a fire spell to illuminate the room, and expose the beast’s weak element.” They jumped out of the bushes, and prepared for battle.

Flan hurled his strengthend spell at the beast, and it was a direct hit. The room was lit, and they could tell what type of chimera it was.

Chimeras are a hodgepodge type of creatures. This particular chimera was red, and had three heads. One head was a chocobo, one was a cactuar, and one was a tonberry. There were giant claws on the four paws, and had a fire salamander tail which breathed fire. This meant ice or water would be the beast’s weak element.

Flan kept attacking with ice spells, while Mog danced. The attacks barley did anything but enrage the chimera. The chimera then pounced toward Mog.

“Noooo!” Flan cried, as he pushed Mog out of the way, as he took the direct brunt of the chimera’s attack. Flan was knocked unconscious; Mog and Goldy were just dazed while they looked over at Flan’s jelly-like body.

Mog started to cry and thought he lost his best friend since childhood. Mog was more than jus angry; he was seething with pain and wanted revenge against the unruly beast.

Mog screeched, and out of nowhere, a tidal wave rushed over the whole room. The chimera drowned while it was washed away, and Mog had gotten his revenge.

Rushing over to Flan’s side he say Flan rise, as if he was never hit. Mog cried again, but with tears of joy. A crystal then floated up from the swamp. It was a deep blue that looked like the Rhys Sea that surrounded Ivalance. Suddenly, a voice came from the crystal which emitted, and echoed throughout the silent room. A like resonated from the crystal, and a silhouette formed from the resonating light. The light had a resemblance to the Water Spirit Maiden Undine.
