Desperate.

Postby Kirby on Thu Mar 12, 2009 7:03 pm

Okay. I'm desperate.
I need some suggestions to improve the overall playability of FTHA.

First lets get some things straight.
1. I'm not looking for character suggestions.
2. I'm not looking for map suggestions.
3. I'm not looking for item suggestions.

What I'm looking for is suggestions about the actual game play.
Things like: movement, interface readability/usability, etc.

More specific things include:
- Maybe some more server options for the host.
- More ways to deal with having a "host" that isn't the actual host.(This is already happening, there just might be a better way for me to deal with it)
- Suggestions on how I could teach the AI more things like strategy, I've also been thinking about letting them hide.
- I've been thinking about different ways to deal with hiding/shaking besides pressing a button. Maybe something that wouldn't slow down game play as much.
-Another thing of course is efficiency. The less lag that the game creates for itself, the better. Because, I can't always be doing nothing on my computer while people play.

I would post this on my BYOND blog, but I don't have the money right now to be able to have one =(.
I've had some free time lately, due to being sick, and I'm trying to catch up on some of my programming skills.
Working on FTHA again, would probably help that quite a bit. I'd like to get better before I start programming a new game,
which I know I've promised other games before, but I definitely plan on going through with this idea. I'm already well on my way to filling up a notebook with design ideas about the game. But don't plan on seeing anything to do with it until much later, I don't want to ruin my drive to build it by telling everyone here that I'm building it =D.

Well I hope someone out there that just may read this will have some insightful Ideas to improve FTHA and help it become a more polished game. I love you guys for all the support in the past and hopefully for support in the future.

You need to start showing you Care

Postby Mark on Mon Apr 06, 2009 11:08 pm

You just gotta get people loyal to the game, and have more things to do. What I see is usually just no one is in there, but there is always a few random people just chilling WAITING for people to be in that, then boom the server goes up to like 12 people and your having fun. This is how I see it usually, so just the admins need to be on a lot more, just chilling in there together, even if you arent playing, just til others join up. What ya need is some loyal players that keep the server populated so others come in and go hmm I'll check that game out, and then they see just how fun that game actually is.

A thing I noticed with AI is they just try avoiding the IT by staying as far away as possible. Adding a few random movements in there might make it a tiny bit harder to kill them as I found just moving at them in the same straight line can easily tag em as you move faster. You could speed em up too ;)

I know I havent posted in a long time , I got caught up with a lot of other random shit, which I aint gonna explain right now, (hopefully im allowed cussing on these forums haha, if not sorry :D ). I think a few new things to do on the game would add a bit more spice, as eventually a person slowly starts to get bored of it. Things such as team games, or mini games, things that possibly get a tiny bit away from the whole tag concept, and maybe something I was thinking about.. like a partner elimination thing, etc may attract some more people.

It would also be nice if the forums became more active again, as im checking them daily and I look at some of the posts and its like, most recent one was two years ago. Like to me, thats just a bit pathetic, so get posting guys! Show that you support the serv + game and lets get it back up n running.

Last of all, noob people claiming host sometimes kill the server, which happened yesterday. Me, and two friends from school started playing, I claimed host, and we were having a great time. A few other people joined up and then I lost connection ( stupid dog knocked over my modem xD) and then some Brog guy claims host. Then EVERY time he gets frozen , or becomes IT, he just f in Rebooted the game. totally killed the server.

Last last of all, the forums needs to be updated. Its descent how its set up, but you need to get rid of all that crap shit that isnt active really anymore, like working on etc, just examples, you got big sections for laser tag assault etc, and I havnet seen a post in those for over a year. You need to clean that shit up kirby/mario, delete it if it aint going to be used, and it can usually be readded later on.
Also, you guys need to start showing that you care for this game, to be succesful, and become active on the forums. Currently im in a CS:S clan ( counterstrike source, its a first person shooter) and every day we have atleast 2 people who post on the forums, then I come on here and its like " Last post, april 18, 2008) and im just like almost a year.. Start doing whats needed!

I agree with mark. but to add to that, i think we should add "minor" gm's. Who can take away Host and kick, ban and mute. and are on all of the time.
I also think that if you gave the player a little more than the title then they would strive to do better. Like a Speicial char for over 2k.
Bring back that vote
For hiding you can make it you so that you can only hide for so long; and shaking you can use an "earthquake" shake that unhides everyone and possibly freezes them fo rlike 5 secs. but only after like 500 secounds.
Yes and finally hosting for the "noob" hosters who always reboot. If they reboot so many times they loose their host.
Thanks,
loving reguards

well kirby i was a suggestion, insted of making fireballs spawn 1 space infront of you, have them made at your characters location, thereby keeping place from shooting trough items and allowing to to hit people 1 space away

Thats not a bad idea except that when I tried it that way, it is possible to hit yourself with a fireball if you are moving when you shoot lol. I could do that and make it stop you from moving everytime you press fire, but I'll need feedback on that first.

what would be nice is a bigger delay from shooting the fire balls.

Or we can just have it to where we can only shoot 10 fireballs every 5 seconds... That would be a good buffer.

True, but if you do that then they can shoot off their fireballs even faster than before and not be able to do anything else for like 3 secounds , and i don't even think you can shoot off 10 fireballs in 5 secs now XD

A bigger delay between fire balls would be nice, and you can (re?)implement that being hit with a second fireball re-mobilizes immobilized ITs. Also, a rule against camping would be great, so people can't stay in one place and shoot fireballs or wait for a non-IT to come out of a pipe.
